About Peyton
I attended Greenville schools and then Stuart Hall in Staunton, Virginia, from whence I graduated, then the University of Alabama, where I graduated with a B.A., Phi Beta Kappa. I studied portrait painting with the late Billy Wilson and then had a studio in Cobb Lane in downtown Birmingham’s Southside. I painted there and also co-authored a book of poetry, The Moonpeelers. I was awarded the Silver Bowl Award for Literature from the Birmingham Festival of Arts in 1985.
My paintings have been represented by the Atchison Gallery (Birmingham), the Martha Lincoln Gallery (Vero Beach, Florida and Long Island, New York), the Maralyn Wilson Gallery (Birmingham) and the Proctor Gallery (Seaside, Florida). I am presently with Little House Gallery in Birmingham.
I have had many one-woman shows and group shows and am in corporate and private collections. I was included in the Art Expo at Jacob Javits Center in New York and was guest artist at the Swan Ball in Lexington, Kentucky. My work was the featured painting for the “Art in Bloom” event at the Birmingham Museum of Art. I also was invited to show at the High Museum in Atlanta and sold that painting to help raise funds for the museum.
I have been in many magazines, including Southern Accents.
I illustrated the highly successful children’s book The Donkeys’ Tales, written by Adele Colvin. Just this March, Pelican Press is issuing our latest book, The Donkey’s Easter Tale. Please check out our new website www.thedonkeystale.com to see a list of book signings, stores, a study guide and more.
My son John Carmichael has created a fabulous online graphic novel for children. Go to www.greenleafadventures.com for a thrilling new way to look at comic books. Do not miss this! It follows the Greenleaf twins, Scott and Olive, along with their friends Marty Jeffers, Becky Fairfax and J.B. Rhodes as they explore the world of Coral Key. New strips will be issued every week as the stories go along. A fresh twist on the old cliffhanger and a unique way to experience story-telling on the internet.
I have recently posted myself on Facebook and have found so many old friends there.
I maintain studios in Mountain Brook, Alabama and Greenville, Alabama. I mainly work in watercolor but sometimes in oils. I love highly detailed, realistic art and paint from things I collect in my studio.
